P. E. Stroëhling, in Russian - П.Е. Стролли, Строли, Стролей, Стролинг.

According to Schidlof, Peter Eduard Stroely was born in 1768 in Dusseldorf. However, in his book "British Miniatures" (1929, London) Basil S. Long maintains that the artist was a Russian, educated at Tsar's expense. After working in Paris and different parts of Germany, the artist studied in Italy ca. 1792, was in Vienna in 1796, and in the same year went to St. Petersburg, where he remained for five years. Later, between 1803-1807, and then again between 1819-1826, Stroely stayed in London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institute, etc. between 1803-1826. Stroely painted portraits and figure subjects, oil portraits and miniatures, and executed a full-length portrait drawing in the manner of Richard Cosway. He had a distinguished clientele. His portrait of Queen Louise of Prussia was in the collection of the Hohenzollern Museum, Berlin; other examples of his work are in the National Library, Vienna, as well as in various Russian museums and private collections. He is said to have died in London ca. 1826.
