Het weefsel van het schilderdoek is een vaak toegepast voorbeeld, daarnaast kan textuur kan worden verkregen door allerlei korrelige of vezelige bestanddelen (zand etc.) aan de verf toe te voegen, alsmede door toepassing van speciale schildertechnieken.
