Packard Electric Company was founded in 1890 by James Ward Packard and William Doud Packard in Warren, Ohio. It manufactured dynamoes, bulbs, other electric devices, and street illuminating systems. The bulb business was soon handed over to a subsidiary founded in 1891, the New York & Ohio Co. which also handled the administration for a new automobile venture. This started in Spring, 1899 as Packard & Weiss. In July, 1899, the Ohio Automobile Company was formed. The first car, Packard Model A, was built between July and October, 1899, still in Packard Electric premises. A total of five cars left the shop in early 1901, long before the Packard Motor Car Company was established in October, 1903.

Packard Electric became a division of General Motors in 1932. In 1988, GM formed the ACG Worldwide automotive supplier division, which Packard Electric joined in 1991. It became the GM Automotive Components Group in 1994 and Delphi Automotive Systems in 1995. In 1998, it became Delphi Corporation. [[Category:Template:Commons cat * Official website]]
