English: The PG&E Mission Substation, located at 1200-36 Mission Street on the corner of 8th Street in the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood of San Francisco, California, was built in 1948 and was designed by William Merchant in a style that was described as :ultramodern. The building features two bas-reliefs, called "Power and Light", on its 8th Street facade by Robert B. Howard. The building's exterior was renovated in 2013, with improvements also made to the lighting, sidewalks and fencing.

The substation has been the site of fires which caused electrical outages in 2003, 2005 and 2017. (Sources: [1], [2] and [3])
