The Old Chronicle Building, also known as the DeYoung Building, at 690 Market Street at the corner of Third and Kearney Streets, was commission from Burnham and Root by the DeYoung Brothers to be the headquarters of the San Francisco Chronicle, replacing the building at Bush and Kearney. The new building, San Francisco's first skyscraper, was completed in 1889. It was damaged inthe 1906 earthquake, but it was rebuilt under the direction of William Polk, Burnham's associate in San Francisco. The building was restored in 2007 and is now an historic landmark. The Chronicle commissioned a new headquarters at 901 Mission Street in 1924. (Source: "The Chronicle Building's Latest Transformation") The building is now the Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences.
