English: The Mutual Life Building, 605 First Avenue in the Pioneer Square neighborhood, Seattle, Washington, USA. Built in 1890 and 1892, the building was originally started as two separate buildings; the proposed 6-story Yesler Building to the East and the proposed 3-story Louis Feurer Building comprising the eastern 30 feet along Yesler Way, both designed by Elmer Fisher but neither would be completed above the ground floor to his design. Construction of the Yesler Building was resumed in 1892 with a new design by Fisher's former employee and successor Emil De Neuf and the building was completed by the end of 1892, shortly before Henry Yesler's death. The building was purchased from his estate by the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York in 1895, and would take on its current name the following year along with a remodeling of the top floor that gave the building its current projecting cornice (designed by the insurance company's unidentified in-house architect, supervised locally by William E. Boone). They purchased the still incomplete Feurer Building in 1902, and commissioned Robert E. Blackwell (Whose own office was in the Mutual Life Bldg) to design the missing piece to match the rest of the building, finally completing it by early 1905.

From its construction until 1910 it was home to the First National Bank, one of the oldest banks in the city that later became part of Seattle First National Bank (Seafirst) and later the Bank of America. Its space was occupied for 4 years after that by the State Bank of Seattle, which would later move to the Baillargeon Building.
