Basic arms & blazon[edit]

Roger de Mortimer, 4th Earl of March, 6th Earl of Ulster (1374-1398), was the son of Edmund Mortimer, 3rd Earl of March and Philippa of Clarence, suo jure 5th Countess of Ulster, daughter and heiress of Lionel of Antwerp, Duke of Clarence, (second surviving son of King Edward III), by his wife Elizabeth de Burgh, 4th Countess of Ulster. The quarterings were later displayed by King Edward IV (as Duke of York), emphasising his descent via a female line from Lionel of Antwerp, Duke of Clarence, on which was based his claim to the crown, as a senior line to the House of Lancaster descended from John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, the third surviving son of King Edward III.
