Deutsch: Der Marientempel im Marienhain (Düsternbrooker Gehölz) entstand Anfang 1808, als die Stadt Kiel das Gelände oberhalb der Krusenkoppel erwarb, dort einen Park anlegten und von dem Architekten Axel Bundsen einen Teepavillon im Stil eines antiken Tempels bauen ließ zu Ehren der Prinzessin Marie Sophie Friederike von Hessen-Kassel (* 1767; † 1852), Gemahlin des Kronzprinzen Friedrich. 1934/35 wurde der Pavillon zum Ehrenmal für die im Ersten Weltkrieg gefallenen Soldaten (Architekt Rudolf Schroeder), eine Ehrenhalle der Nationalsozialisten. Es entstand der fast runde Sockel mit plattenbelegtem Vorplatz, welcher auch heute noch im Gelände zu sehen ist. 1944 wurde der Bau durch eine Bombe beschädigt und 1948 vollständig abgetragen.
English: The Marientempel in the Marienhain (Düsternbrook Wood) was created at the beginning of 1808 when the city of Kiel acquired the area above the Krusenkoppel, created a park there and built a tea pavilion in the style of an antique temple by the architect Axel Bundsen in honor of Princess Marie Sophie Friederike of Hesse-Kassel (* 1767; † 1852), wife of Crown Prince Friedrich. In 1934/35 the pavilion became a memorial for the soldiers who died in the First World War (architect Rudolf Schroeder), a National Socialist hall of honor. The almost round base with a slab-covered forecourt was created, which can still be seen in the area today. The building was damaged by a bomb in 1944 and was completely demolished in 1948.
