English: Maria Intelisano was one of the girls who modelled for Wilhelm von Gloeden, quite possibly his favourite. She was born on 26th March 1890 in Castelmola, fifth of the eight children of Giorgio Intelisano (1844-1925) and his wife Giuseppa Manuli (1855-1937), both small farmers.
Giorgio was the brother of the parish priest of Castelmola, don Giuseppe Intelisano (1853-1938), who was one of Gloeden's close friends in Taormina. Maria posed mostly for portraits, one of which was an idealised portrait of actress Eleonora Duse as a girl, which became very popular. Thanks to her fine and elegant features, Maria's rank amongst the most popular of Gloeden's portraits.
She died prematurely in Castelmola, aged just 14, on 28th April 1904.Media in category "Maria Intelisano"
