The Lucerne Carnival is the largest annual event in the city of Lucerne and in central Switzerland. It starts on dirty Thursday ("Schmotzige Donnschtig"), the Thursday before Rosenmontag ("Güdismäntig"), with the arrival by boat of brother Fritschi, an imaginary leader of the oldest guild in Lucerne, of the saffron guild ( founded around 1400). The "Big Bang" gives the signal to the Guuggenmusigen and to all carnival fans. For six days, are honored. Tagwach (Diane), Urknall (Big Bang), Schmutziger Donnerstag (Fat Thursday), Vereinigte, Bruder Fritschi, Guugerbaum, Zünfte (corporations), Usgüüglete and Monstercorso.
