English: Ledger art is a Native American art form created by Plains, Plateau, and Great Basin tribes beginning in the mid-19th century. Comanche, Kiowa, Cheyenne prisoners of war at Fort Marion in Florida by the United States Government between 1875–1878 were prominent ledger artists. The art form marks a transition from Plains hide painting to easel arts. Due to tribes being forced onto reservations and the extermination of buffalo, paper from accountant's ledgers became a popular support for painting and drawing.

Deutsch: Ledger art ist die Bezeichnung für Zeichnungen und Malereien von Prärie-Indianern auf Papier. Die Blütezeit dieser indianischen Kunstrichtung war der Zeitraum von der Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bis in die 1930er Jahre, es gibt aber bis zum heutigen Tage Indianer, die diese Kunstrichtung pflegen. Der Name kommt von Konto-Büchern (engl. ledger books), die für die Prärie-Indianer des 19. Jahrhunderts die wichtigste Papierquelle waren.
