The Kinetic Sculpture Race was founded in Ferndale, California by American sculptor Hobart Brown in 1969. Humboldt County hosts the annual Kinetic World Grand Championship the last weekend of May. Racers travel 42 miles in 3 days. The event has spread to other states and countries.
