The Kalasamharamurti temple in Triprangod is a 9th century Hindu temple complex with nine shrines. The main shrine is dedicated to Shiva and faces west. It has a dvitala (two storeyed) apsidal vimana built on a granite upapitha. This temple was reconstructed after considerable damage and desecration. The current primary temple includes a 16-pillar mandapam, an apsidal pradakshinapatha, a sopanam, an ardhamandpam and apsidal plan sanctum.

The Kalasamharamurti temple is notable for illustrating an early apsidal Hindu temple that is a sub-variant consisting of nested co-axial apsidal architecture. This apsidal sanctum inside an apsidal vimana contrasts with apsidal vimana with square sanctum inside, and apsidal vimana with oblong sanctum inside. The Kalasamharamurti temple is thus evidence of architectural innovations and experimentations by Hindu artisans in 9th to 10th century Kerala.

The temple has an inscription of Kodai Ravi Varman, a Chera king. This records a gift of land to this pre-existing temple in the early 10th century. Therefore, the Kalasamharamurti temple is dated to pre-10th century, with most scholars placing it in the 9th century.

The other shrines in this Hindu temples complex include an apsidal shrine for Sastha, Bhagavati, five other Shaiva shrines, and an impressive square plan with an oblong roof Krishna shrine. Thus, the complex includes shrines for all major Hindu traditions, though with an emphasis on Shaivism.
