Jònica (1983) is a marble sculpture by Josep Maria Subirachs, homage to Cavafy, located at the Hort del Rei in Palma (Mallorca). On the pedestal is an inscription with three verses by Cavafy, offered in the Catalan translation by Carles Riba, from the homonymous poem Ionian (1911): Just because we smashed their statues, because we expelled them from their temples, the gods did not die from this. |
