Images from Bildindex of Bildarchiv Foto Marburg

This category contains public domain images of Bildindex (full name Bildindex der Kunst und Architektur). The URL of Bildindex is www.bildindex.de. Bildindex der Kunst und Architektur translates as "image index of art and architecture", and Bildarchiv Foto Marburg means "image archive for photographs in Marburg". When uploading images from Bildindex, please include as much information as possible into the description plus for source indications permanent links to the object page and the permanent link to the image file. For multi-part objects also include a link to the individual photograph page, if one exists.

It is strongly recommended to use, whenever possible, the template {{From Bildindex}}. See the template description for parameters.

For only referencing images from Bildindex use template {{Bildindex}}!

How to determine the numbers

After searching the best way consists in clicking on the paper sheet symbol below the wanted image in search results list. This leads to the object page with all important information. For multi-part objects you need to be careful to refer to the correct photograph, see for instance Object 08100457: "Sammlung von Bildnissen deutscher Künstler in Rom (Erstes Künstleralbum)".

  • The object number can be found on bottom of an object after "Objekt". Leave out any potentially following "Teil …".
Do always control in preview: Sometimes there are different object numbers given for single parts, but only the number for the main object does work!
  • The file name is shown after "Bilddatei"; if the former is not present, you can use the number after "Microfiche-Scan". Do not copy any potentially following semicolon.
If both exist, you must control, which one of these you exactly used as source for the file uploaded in Commons!
  • The individual number of the photograph is found, if present, after "Aufnahme-Nr." (record number), or in some cases, if this is present alone, after "Positiv-Nr." (positive number) instead, again without any potentially following semicolon.
Note, that these numbers can (apart from German umlauts, periods, underscores and slash signs) contain spaces, where line breaks can occur!

Addresses without template

At time of writing the following addresses are active:

Object page
http://www.bildindex.de/dokumente/html/obj$OBJECT$ with $OBJECT$ as object number.
Probably for historic reasons http://www.bildindex.de/obj$OBJECT$.html works as well.
Individual page of a photograph
http://www.bildindex.de/?pnegnr:%22$PNEGNR$%22 with $PNEGNR$ as URL encoded number of the photograph (in template shorter as phnr). The URL encoding is especially important here for spaces, slash signs and German umlauts; if you use the template, it is created automatically. The string %22, you can see in the address before and after the encoded number, is itself a URL encoded ".
After entering the address you will at first find less information than is on the object page. To see more information you must open the zoom view (by clicking on the magnifier symbol with plus sign in it) and on the created page on the i symbol. In the popup appearing on lower right side you can now read, though, the same information like before on the object page. Hence, the only advantage consists in the individual link, when the photograph belongs to a multi-part object, particularly since the i symbol is not every time provided. The zoom function is also available on the search result list and object pages.
(The parameter pnegnr occurring in the web address is presumably derived from "photograph negative number".)
Link to image file
For most images works http://www.bildindex.de/bilder/$FNAME$a.jpg with $FNAME$ as number of the image.
Note, that in the web link the name of the JPEG file contains an additional trailing a after $FNAME$.
There is another address variant that uses $FNAME$ only (without a file extension): http://www.bildindex.de/bilder/d/$FNAME$. This seems to work for all images, but should only be used in cases when the first variant produces bad links. When using the template an according note is produced then.
