Within the collection description "local" or "Amherstburg area" are terms which include southern Ontario and northern United States including areas near Lake Michigan, Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. These areas encompass Windsor, Essex County, Ohio (Oberlin), and Michigan (Detroit).

The Alvin D. McCurdy fonds has been inscribed on CCUNESCO's Canada Memory of the World Register.
