English: Israel Miller (d. August 15, 1929), a cobbler from East Prussia, emigrated to the U.S. in 1892. After working for John Azzimonti, who made footwear for the stage, Miller opened in 1895 his own shop in New York City. In 1911 he opened a small store in a brownstone at 1552 Broadway at 46th Street which laid foundation to I. Miller & Sons. In three decades the company expanded to 228 retail shops across the nation with 16 stores in New York City, including the iconic I. Miller Shoes Building in Manhattan which is still adored with inscription, The Show Folks Shoeshop Dedicated To Beauty In Footwear and features statues of Ethel Barrymore, Marilyn Miller, Mary Pickford, and Rosa Ponselle in second-story niches.
