Hughes and Mullins operated from 1883-1910 from 60 Union Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight. The business was purchased from established photographer William Lacey in 1862 by Jabez Hughes, who acted as photographer to Queen Victoria. Cornelius Jabez Hughes died on 11 August 1884. In 1883 his assistant, Gustav Mullins, became his partner and the business was continued by him in the joint names until 1910, when Mullins moved to 64 Union street, trading under his own sole name. Hughes & Mullins were granted a Royal Warrant on 15 January 1885 when they were named "Photographers to Her Majesty". Mullins was born 1851 in Jersey, CI and died on 27 December 1921.[1]
