The Hotel Allen was built on the site of the Allen House Hotel. It opened on June 15th 1886. Owned by Thomas and Franklin Koch along with Wilson Shankweiler, it operated on the upper floors of the Koch Brothers Men's store, which operated on the ground floor. It was the grand hotel of Allentown for many years, being closed suddenly in November 1946 when the property was condemned by Commonwealth building inspectors. At the time of its closure, the hotel had about 100 permanent residents which were evicted.

The property stood vacant until 1949 when the upper floors were removed and the remainder was totally rebuilt. In its place the Koch Brothers men's clothing store expanded into the former hotel's 2nd and 3rd floor. The property was sold in 1955 and in 1956 ws replaced by the new First National Bank building.

Today it is the location of the NIZ Two City Center.
