This former warehouse, now apartments, dates back to c. 1884 although the whole area was warehousing c. 1810 to serve the rapidly expanding docks less than a mile to the west. It is listed Grade II by English Heritage and includes No. 20 York Street and a facade on Argyle Street. It was in use in 1900 as a wine & spirit store, so it is possible the letters "WBW" appearing over the loading bays on York Street stand for "wet bonded warehouse".
