Hayashi Guitar Factory[1][note 1] was a guitar factory of Hayashi Mokko [Hayashi Woodworking], once existed in Matsumoto, Japan in 1960s. Not to be confused with the Hayashi Gakki (Hayashi Musical Instruments) in Tatsuno (1948-1952)[note 2]

Around 1960 Westheimer Sales Company in the United States, a guitar trading company established by Jack Westheimer, worked with them and developed a new product line called Cortez from which later Cort brand was branched. During the 1960s, Hayashi was responsible for Cortez, Emperador,[2] Custom, and Mountain[3] acoustic guitars. Also in 1968, Hayashi bought out the Zen-On Guitar Factory spinned out from Hayashi Gakki (Hayashi Musical Instruments) in Tatsuno.[3][note 2]

In the early 1970s, Hayashi was bought out by Pearl Musical Instrument Company, and a manufacturer of above brands was changed to Matsumoku in Matsumoto, and then Cort in Korea.[2] In 1977, a master builder Yasuo Momose and his colleague craftsmen in Hayashi Guitar were headhunted to establish a new company Headway Guitars, and it still remains as Deviser Co., Ltd.[1]
