The Gravestone of Bernard Walter Evans has an unusual configuration, and during the decade before 2021 it was damaged and parts are missing. Originally it had a metal pole between the tops of the two standing stones. From that pole was hung a chain and anchor, probably a real one from a dinghy or day boat. Evans designed this monument for his wife Mary (d.1902), whom he described as his "anchor" in life. The metal anchor once had an arrow through it, representing the death of Mary Evans. There are some photographs from around 2010 on Gravestone Photos which show the monument when it was more complete.
