The Gortantaoid River, sometimes Gortantoid River, originates from Loch a' Churragan in the pass between Beinn Bhreac and Beinn Ghibheach, where it is soon joined by Allt Mairi Thormaid. Flowing to the west, it creates a burn through the abandoned farm at Gortantaoid before crossing the sands of Traigh Baile Aonghais and exiting to Loch Gruinart just south of Gortantaoid Point, north Islay.
