The Gaiety Theatre was designed by architects Herts & Tallant. It opened on August 31, 1908, with a special one-week engagement of The Yankee Prince, transferred from the Knickerbocker Theatre so George M. Cohan could open the Gaiety, of which he was lessee, with his own show. The Traveling Salesman moved to the Gaiety Theatre from the Liberty Theatre on the afternoon of September 7, 1908 (Labor Day) and closed April 10, 1909.
