English: The 200 & 300 series was the new name for Freight Rover's Sherpa van range from 1984 (coinciding with a change to square headlights). The 200 was essentially the same as the old Sherpa, built since 1974 as the Leyland Sherpa, while the 300 was a new wider body version introduced with the facelift. (Since the Sherpa name had been in use for this style of van since 1974 the 200/300 series are also often called sherpas). The redesignation to the 200 / 300 series coincided with a rise in minibus use by the conventional bus companies due to bus deregulation. In 1989 the 200 was rebadged as a Leyland DAF, while the 300 series was superseded by the Leyland DAF 400 series, but by this time conventional bus operators were turning away from van derived models to purpose built designs such as the Optare MetroRider.
