English: Frank Beard (1842-1905), American illustrator, chalk talk artist, and cartoonist; he illustrated books, drew both single panel cartoons and sequential comics; he created illustrations for The Ram’s Horn, Comic Monthly, Judge, and Our Day, among others. He was credited with originating the "chalk talk" public lecture format, when presenter draws pictures to illustrate the content of their lecture. Beard was near deaf from birth.
