English: The building at 110 Broad Street between Brainard and Williams Street in New London, Connecticut, was built in 1889-91 as the Williams Memorial Institute, a private secondary school founded by Harriet Peck Williams following the death of her son Thomas W. Williams II, a well-known whaling merchant. The building was designed by the firm of Shepley, Rutan & Coolidge – the sucesssor firm to H. H. Richardson – in the Richardsonian Romanesque style; construction was supervised by George Warren Cole of that firm. The school could accomodate 300 students and featured seven classrooms, a gym, laboratories and a library. The school moved in 1954 when it merged with nearby Connecticut College and became a co-educational preparatory school run by the college's education department; the school is still in operation. Its original building is now the State of Connecticut Superior Court for Geographical Area 10.
The former Williams Memorial Institute building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
