This courthouse was originally built in 1861 to a design by Salem architect Enoch Fuller, in the Italianate style. In 1887, due to a lack of space, The Lynn architecture firm of Wheeler & Northend was commissioned to expand and remodel the building, resulting in the current Richardsonian Romanesque building, which was dedicated in 1891. The building is no longer used by the courts.
