The so-called "Palomar" (Pigeon-house or "the Dove Cotes") is part of a quadrangle complex of four palaces surrounding a courtyard of which only the northern front remained. The name derives from the cresting which reminded early explorers of a pigeon house. The roof crests originally supported stucco decoration, most of which was already gone by the time of the early explorers. The structure was built c. 900-1000 AD
