« Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he came to Canada in 1907 with his parents and was naturalized a Canadian in 1920. The same year he studied at the Art Association of Montreal School under William Brymner and Edmond Dyonnet and won a scholarship in life classes. The following year he won the Reford Prize for painting. He then studied under G. Horne Russell at his studio. In 1922 his canvas "A Young Spaniard" was exhibited with the Royal Canadian Academy exhibition and was purchased for the permanent collection of the Art Gallery of Hamilton. In 1925 he entered a mural competition sponsored by the Royal Canadian Academy and was successful with five other artists in having his work chosen to be completed. This mural decorated the main hall of the Strathcarn School, Montreal; measured 17 ft. x 8 ft. and was allegorical in subject matter. Most of his paintings exhibited, were either done in oils or miniatures on ivory. His miniatures were exhibited at the Watson Art Galleries, Montreal, and received commissions through Watson's, Scott & Sons (Mtl.), Johnson's (Mtl.) and the National Gallery of Canada. » – rcip-chin.gc.ca
