The public water supply in Cuba, shown as an example in Baracoa, is not in a good condition, it suffers fom an ailing infrastructure. The major part of the water is lost by numerous leaks; everywhere in the streets can be seen wet spots, puddles, smaller or larger pools – each such spot is a damage of a water pipe. Most pipes of any dimension are of poor quality PE, buried very shallow (often only some cm) in the ground, or in the joints of concrete surface streets.

Sometimes such leaks are repaired, so for a while less water may be lost at such a point – but very often it soon will be the same. When a main tube is under such repair, a larger neighbourhood remains without water supply for some hours.
