- The name Chapultepec from the Náhuatl language word chapoltepēc, meaning "at the grasshopper's hill". It was the 1860s residence of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico and Empress Carlota.
- The castle houses the present day National Museum of History, and had various uses over its history, including as a military academy, Imperial residence, and Presidential residence.
