English: From about the 1970s, Hi-Fi and professional tape cassette decks were equipped with two analog VU (=volume unit) level meters to monitor the recording level. The reason was that the recording level had to be adjusted manually in order to achieve a recording with a low level of noise, but at the same time did not exceed the maximum allowable recording level of the magnetic tape in the cassette. From about 1980, these analog instruments were replaced by LED-based or fluorescent recording meters which were cheaper and also had a faster reaction to impulses in the recorded sound.
Deutsch: Ab etwa den 1970er Jahren wurden HiFi- und professionelle Tonbandkassettendecks mit zwei analogen VU-Pegelanzeigen (= Volume Unit) zur Überwachung des Aufnahmepegels ausgestattet. Der Grund war, dass der Aufnahmepegel manuell angepasst werden musste, um eine rauscharme Aufnahme zu erreichen, deren Pegel aber gleichzeitig den maximal zulässigen Aufnahmepegel auf dem Magnetband in der Kassette nicht überschritt. Ab etwa 1980 wurden diese analogen Instrumente durch LED- oder Fluoreszenz-basierte Anzeigen ersetzt, die billiger waren und auch schneller auf Musikimpulse reagierten.
