English: Carrow Bridge was installed in 1810 as a toll bridge about 15 metres downstream from the present structure. It had a cast-iron elliptical arch with a span of 50ft, cast-iron railings and piers, and white brick abutments and was designed by A Brown and cast by JG Aggs. In 1833 it was rebuilt as a drawbridge mainly of wood so that boats could pass beneath it. In 1923 a new single-leaf roller bascule bridge was constructed by J Butler & Co of Leads in its current position, due to Colmans’ desire to extend their site across the road. The bridge was opened by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) on 27 June 1923.
