English: The Canal San Fernando is a ship canal (or navigation canal) in Tigre Partido. The construction started in 1806 after an order by Virrey Rafael de Sobremonte although it was interrupted and not resumed until 1864. In 1875 a dry dock (designed by engineer Luis Huergo) was also built in the canal. Consequently, the canal not only served as an internal port for loading and unloading fruit, wood and wicker from the Delta islands, but also as a careening dock. It was a space in which the boats entered, two gates were closed and the water was emptied, acting as a dry dock for the cleaning, repair and maintenance of the boats' hulls. By the 1980s, the canal out of use. – (source).
