Photographs from an album formerly in the India Office Library until it was dissolved in the 1980s, and now in the British Library.

The British Library catalogue gives the following description, at shelfmark Photo 21/:

"Black, full-leather album, 375x485mm, containing mounted prints with letterpress captions. The title, royal coat of arms and floral border are all stamped in gold on the front cover. Inside is a title-page with elaborate peacock design in gold and blue which frames the following caption: 'India Office Official Record of the Great War taken by Dr. H.D. Girdwood, LLD, FRGS, FRPS. London Realistic Travels, 4 Featherstone Buildings, High Holborn, WC1'.

The photographs appear in a variety of sizes, shapes and colours including shades of blue, green and brown. They record scenes of military life as experienced by the Indian and British armies in France during the First World War. The battle scenes are not real but staged from maneouvres."
