English: Opened in 1976, the Brent Cross Shopping Centre in Brent Cross in the London Borough of Barnet was the first stand-alone shopping mall in the United Kingdom. It was laid out as an east-west aligned basic rectangle with a central corridor, and a bus station in the middle of the south side. Two anchor stores were included at either end of a central walkway, both department stores, a John Lewis in the west end, and a Fenwick in the east end (as of 2012, both are still the occupants). In 1995 an extension was added with a corridor running north from the middle of the east-west corridor into it, and the addition of a multi-storey car park to the north of that.
