English: The last major strategic raid of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) Bomber Command during World War II, was the destruction of an oil refinery at Vallø, Tønsberg in southern Norway, then under German Nazi occupation, by 107 Lancasters, on the night of 25/26 April, 1945, less than two weeks before the end of the war. The attack was supposed to cut off the fuel supply to German submarines. However, most oil tanks at the refinery were empty and many bombs hit the houses outside the refinery, killing 53 civilians in the small community and an unknown number of Germans. The refinery Vallø oljeraffineri started in 1905, restarted in 1950 and finally closed down in 2001.
