English: Developed by Hermann Berghaus (1828-1890). As noted in the front matter of volumes of the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, who use the projection in their logo, "Star projections were developed in Austria and Germany in the second half of the nineteenth century. The Berghaus Star projection, developed in 1879 by Herman Berghaus at the Perthes publishing house in Gotha, Germany, is a modification is a modification of earlier star projections. It retains the polar characteristics of its predecessors, but interrupts the southern hemisphere only five times..." On some websites, the projection is incorrectly credited to Berghaus's uncle, Heinrich Berghaus (1797-1884), apparently due to mistaken attribution in the original printing of Snyder & Voxland (1989) (p. 156), which error was noted in an errata sheet and corrected in more recent PDF versions of the text.
