English: The Battle of Cove Mountain, also known as the Battle of Crockett's Cove, occurred in Wythe County, Virginia, on May 10, 1864, during the American Civil War. A Union force commanded by Brigadier General William W. Averell fought a Confederate force commanded by Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan. The result of the battle is considered indecisive, although Averell's force fled during the night, and was not able to capture Wytheville, Virginia, and the nearby lead mines.
