The Bali Paşa mosque was (first) built in 1504 by Huma Hatun, a daughter of Beyazit II, in memory of her husband. As the mosque is mentioned in the list of works by Sinan it must be supposed that he rebuilt the mosque at some later moment, though it is unclear if the old plan was used again. The dome arches to all sides but the east are very deep, so shallow bays with galleries above could be constructed. In 1894 it suffered in an earthquake, and again in a 1917 fire. A 1935 restoration left the mosque without five domes on the porch (which seem to have returned). The mosque stands within a fine garden with high trees.
