Attack on Matthias Ecke (Dresden)

Englisch: The SPD politician Mathias Ecke was seriously injured in the face in a physical attack by four young men while hanging up election posters for the 2024 European elections in Dresden (Striesen) on (Schandauer Straße) on the evening of May 3, 2024.An emergency operation took place at the University Hospital in Dresden. A suspected perpetrator promptly turned himself in to the police in Dresden, accompanied by his mother. Many thousands of citizens gathered in a peaceful assembly at Pohlandplatz in Dresden to demonstrate against this type of violence against Politicians and Attacks on the "Democracy" of the "Federal Republic of Germany”.

Nationally and internationally, this attack on a politician received a great deal of attention and attention from the press in all media. More than 100 MPs have now signed the Striesen Declaration, which strongly condemns violence against politicians.
