Notes

Deutsch: 1734 bestellte der neue Hochmeister des Deutschen Ordens, Kurfürst Clemens August von Wittelsbach dieses Altarbild für den Hochaltar der Deutschordenkirche (Frankfurt am Main) bei dem venezianischen Maler Giovanni Battista Piazzetta. Das barocke Gemälde der Himmelfahrt Mariae wurde weltberühmt. Im französischen Revolutionskrieg eroberte zunächst General Adam-Philippe, comte de Custine (1740-1793) im Oktober 1792 Frankfurt und legte der Stadt Zahlungen von 2 Millionen Gulden auf. Zwei Monate später, am 2.12.1792, eroberten die aus der Champagne zurückkehrenden Preußen und Hessen die Stadt zurück. Am 16. Juli 1796 ließ abermals Jean-Baptiste Kléber (1753-1800) Frankfurt besetzen. Der Stadt wurde eine abermalige Tributzahlung von 6 Millionen Franken in Geld und 2 Millionen in Lieferungen auferlegt. Erneut eine schwere Belastung der Bürger. Am 2. Dezember 1796 wurde die Stadt für neutral erklärt. Nach nur ca. 62 Jahren verschwand 1796 dieses Altarbild aus der Giovanni Battista Piazzetta als Kriegbeute. Es wurde erst 1840 im Museum von Lille wiederentdeckt. Seit 1957 befindet sich das Gemälde in Paris im Louvre, Italienische Maler, Raum 14.
