English: Asafo units were local warrior organizations among most peoples in present-day Ghana. In pre-colonial times, they formed the bulk of the fighting forces of each state. Also, each Europeans Fort had in the past with his mulatto companies own Asafo. Today the local Asafo structures are an important part of a civilian homeland security in Ghana.

Deutsch: Asafo-Einheiten waren lokale Kriegerorganisationen bei den meisten Völkern im heutigen Ghana. In vorkolonialer Zeit bildeten sie den Hauptteil der kämpfenden Truppe eines jeweiligen Staates. Auch hatte jedes Europäer-Fort in der Vergangenheit mit seinen Mulatten-Kompanien eine eigene Asafo. Heute bilden die lokalen Asafo-Strukturen einen wichtigen Bestandteil eines zivilen Heimatschutzes in Ghana.
