Statue of Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD). Torso found in 1954, the head in 1955, near the Monumental Arch north of the Hellenistic Gate, near his spouse, Sabina. Roman, 121 AD (a pedestal with his name found nearby had his name and the date). The centre of the armour is decorated with the head of Medusa, below it two griffons are facing each other, on the bottom an Acanthus leaf supporting an eagle with spread wings. A cingulum belt goes around the griffons and is tied in front in a large bow. A bundle of lightning bolts decorates the right shoulder. Two rows of leather garments protect the thighs and cap the shoulders. A pedestal found nearby bears the name of the emperor and the date. The statue is different to any other statue and hence completely original.
