Much of the surviving art from the Amarna period is in the form of reliefs carved into "talatat", a relatively small rectangular cut of stone that was used extensively in the construction of Amarna era buildings, such as the Great Temple of the Aten. The small construction blocks made it easily to quickly complete large buildings, but it made it equally as easy to demolish them as well, and many of the fragments now on display at various museums around the world were once used as filler for subsequent structures.
