English: Africville Museum is an interpretation centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia on the former site of the Seaview African United Baptist Church, established at Africville in 1849. Africville was a Black-Canadian community in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and the church served as a place of worship, town hall and community centre. When the residents of Africville were evicted in the 1960s as part of an urban renewal scheme, the church was demolished in 1969 at night to avoid controversy. On 24 February 2010, Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly made the "Africville Apology", apologizing for the eviction as part of a $4.5-million compensation deal. The Seaview African United Baptist Church, demolished more than four decades earlier, was rebuilt in the summer of 2011 to serve as an interpretation centre.
