Notes
English: The painting was commissioned by banker Gaspare di Zanobi del Lama for his family chapel at the counter facade of Santa Maria Novella. It was surmounted by a lunette depicting the nativity (now above the central entrance door).
English: The elderly king or Magus, who is approaching to kiss the foot of the Child, is Cosimo de' Medici; the Magus with the red cloak is Piero il Gottoso, his eldest son, while the one next to him, dressed in white, is Giovanni di Cosimo, Piero’s brother.
