A. T. Stewart's Department Store was originally located on lower Broadway near City Hall, then in 1846 moved across the street to the still extant 280 Broadway, later called The Sun Building. In 1862 it moved uptown to Broadway on the full block between 9th and 10th Streets and Broadway and 4th Avenue in Manhattan -- this building no longer exists. The store was later sold to Wanamaker's after Stewart's death, and they built a full block annex building (still extant) between 8th Street and 9th Streets and Broadway and Lafayetts Street. It was connected to the main store via a skybridge.
