Email[edit]

Hi Ryk. I got the email you sent. I can't respond via email. Can I respond here? seb26 (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I absolutely assume good faith on your part too and I apologise if I implied that you didn't act that way. In my opinion, while there is a need to be concerned and to always be attentive to licensing information, the most appropriate act to rectify the error if any is to start a deletion discussion. Since that was already done, for anyone to change the license type on the front page is first of all generally futile (end users can typically also see the red deletion notice on the page and judge the potential trustworthiness), but secondly, it is to take the debate away from a conversational and consultative form and turn it into more direct, controversial actions in which dialogue can only be had in limited edit summary spaces. For this reason when deletion nominations are raised, it is the generally accepted status quo that all participants stop editing that part of the page and provide arguments on the discussion instead. It then suddenly matters less what license tag is used at what time because it is now up for debate in any case. I'm not speaking exclusively of your actions here and I'm speaking not at all about your intentions, which I can see were admirable and were in the interest of preserving our site's accuracy and adherence to policy. But I'm also not an administrator nor the agent who has responded to the OTRS ticket, so I don't find my opinion relevant on this particular issue any longer. But you all have provided sufficient explanation of your perspectives so it should be simple for an admin to resolve this in seven days. Thanks for taking the time to write to me. seb26 (talk) 16:30, 12 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
